The Nicosia Municipality Building (New Nicosia Town Hall) is located in the walled historic city area and was developed to consolidate municipal services in one central complex. The project is notable not only for its contemporary public-facing presence, but for its sensitive integration of archaeological remains found on site—turning constraints into part of the building’s spatial and symbolic logic. According to the City of Nicosia, the complex was designed with an emphasis on modern energy planning, and it was formally inaugurated on 1 March 2019. The architecture aims for a respectful fit within its historic surroundings, using a high-quality contemporary architectural language while responding to local conditions and the character of the protected urban fabric. Architecturally, the work is framed as an interface between the municipality and public life: the town hall becomes a transparent, accessible boundary rather than an inward-looking administrative block. In doing so, it supports both the day-to-day operation of the municipality and the ongoing regeneration narrative of Nicosia’s historic center.
