About this place
A science fiction museum on the east shore of Jinhai Lake in Shanghai's Fengxian district by Scenic Architecture Office — a rectilinear volume wrapped in dramatically undulating aluminium fins that ripple and shift with the light.
Wave Cube is a science fiction museum designed by Scenic Architecture Office (Zhu Xiaofeng) with Tongji Architectural Design Group, completed in 2025 on the east shore of Jinhai Lake in Fengxian New City, Shanghai. The project won a competition for a sci-fi themed cultural building in the lakeside district. The design wraps a simple rectilinear programme volume in a dramatically undulating aluminium facade — horizontal fins that curve and overlap to produce a continuous wave-like surface whose apparent depth and rhythm shifts depending on the viewer's position and the quality of light. The building reads simultaneously as a mineral formation, a frozen wave, and a precisely engineered surface, making it one of the more formally rigorous cultural pavilions in contemporary Chinese architecture.
