About this place
윤슬 (Yoonseul) — a stainless-steel sunken garden installation at Seoullo 7017 Malli-dong Plaza, whose louvred canopy creates shimmering light patterns at the base of Seoul's elevated walkway.
Yoonseoul Place (윤슬) takes its name from a Korean word for the glistening surface pattern made when sunlight or moonlight strikes moving water — a term that carries connotations of evanescence and perceptual shift. The name establishes the space's orientation: towards the experiential and the immaterial rather than the institutional.
The space functions as a platform for emerging Korean artists working across disciplines, with programming that moves between visual art, performance, sound, and installation. It operates with a degree of flexibility unusual in Seoul's more formally structured gallery landscape, taking on projects that resist easy categorisation and working with artists who are building practice rather than consolidating reputation.
As a space to visit, it belongs to the growing ecosystem of artist-led and programme-focused venues in Seoul that sit alongside but apart from the commercial gallery district of Cheongdam and the museum-scale institutions of the national cultural quarter. The quality and interest of any given visit will depend on what is showing, and checking the programme in advance is advisable.
