About this place
The national museum of photography in the Netherlands, housed in the landmark Las Palmas warehouse on Rotterdam's Wilhelminapier — a converted 1950s margarine factory overlooking the Maas.
The Nederlands Fotomuseum is the national institute for Dutch photography, established in 2003 and housed since 2007 in the Las Palmas building on the Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam. The building — a former Unilever margarine storage warehouse from the 1950s — was converted by Renner Hainke Wirth Zirn Architekten into a contemporary museum and archive facility. The Wilhelminapier itself is one of Europe's densest concentrations of high-quality contemporary architecture, home also to the Hotel New York and several residential towers. The museum holds a collection of over 5 million photographs, glass plates, films, and documents tracing the history of Dutch photography from the 19th century to the present, and hosts major temporary exhibitions.
